Short definitions for the terms used across the TrafficOS directory.
- Above the FoldThe portion of a page visible on screen before the visitor scrolls — the first thing they see.
- Auto SurfA traffic exchange mode where pages rotate automatically with little manual clicking.
- AutoresponderA service that automatically sends a pre-written sequence of emails to new leads after they opt in, without manual sending.
- Banner ExchangeA network that rotates image ads across member sites for credits.
- Bounce RateThe percentage of visitors who leave a page without taking any further action or visiting a second page.
- Classified AdA posted text (or banner) ad on a board viewed by other members.
- Classified AdA listing posted to a categorized ad board, similar in format to newspaper classifieds, promoting an offer, opportunity, or service.
- Click-Through RateThe percentage of people who see your ad, banner, or link who actually click it.
- Conversion RateThe percentage of visitors who complete the action you wanted — an opt-in, a sale, a sign-up — out of everyone who arrived.
- CreditsInternal currency used on exchanges and mailers to buy views, mails, or ads.
- Domain AgeHow long a traffic site's domain has been registered and active — a rough proxy for its stability and trustworthiness.
- Double Opt-InA list-building process requiring a subscriber to confirm their email address via a follow-up link before they're added to your active list.
- Downline BuilderA hub that places your referrals into multiple partner traffic programs.
- Featured ListingA directory listing highlighted for visibility above standard entries.
- Featured ListingA directory placement a site owner pays for or earns to appear more prominently than a standard listing.
- FFA PageA 'free-for-all' link page where anyone can submit their URL, listed briefly before being pushed off by newer submissions.
- GPT SiteA 'get-paid-to' site that pays members small amounts for completing tasks — clicking ads, surveys, offers — beyond just viewing ads like a PTC.
- HitOne view of your ad or website recorded when a member surfs past it on a traffic exchange, typically after a required timer.
- IM ToolsUtilities that support campaigns: cloakers, rotators, hosts, and similar.
- Landing PageAny page a visitor arrives at ('lands on') after clicking an ad — the general term that squeeze pages, splash pages, and sales pages all fall under.
- Last Verified DateThe date a directory listing was most recently confirmed to be live and accurate.
- Lead CaptureCollecting visitor contact details — usually email — for follow-up.
- Lead Capture PageA page built to convert visitors into leads by collecting contact details, usually in exchange for a freebie or offer preview.
- Link CloakerA tool that hides long affiliate URLs behind a cleaner destination link.
- Link CloakerA tool that masks a long or unattractive affiliate link behind a short, branded, or clean-looking URL.
- Link RotatorA single URL that cycles traffic across multiple destination offers.
- Link RotatorA single URL that forwards visitors to a rotating set of destination links, splitting traffic across offers automatically.
- List BuildingThe ongoing practice of growing an email list of leads you can market to directly, instead of relying solely on rented or borrowed traffic.
- Manual SurfEarning exchange credits by actively clicking through timed member sites.
- MatrixThe fixed-width, multi-level grid structure a downline builder uses to place new referrals under existing members.
- Member SpotlightA featured slot on a traffic site or directory that highlights one member's site, ad, or success story to the whole membership.
- Opt-In RateThe percentage of visitors to a squeeze or lead capture page who submit their email address.
- Owner-Claimed ListingA directory entry the site's actual owner has verified control over, allowing them to edit details and respond to reviews.
- PTCPaid-to-click: members earn for viewing timed ads; advertisers buy those views.
- ReferralA new member who joins a traffic site through your personal link, generating you bonus credits, commissions, or downline positions.
- SafelistAn opt-in email list of members who agree to receive promotional mail from each other.
- Solo AdA dedicated email blast from a list owner promoting only your offer.
- Splash PageA brief intermediate page shown before the main offer, usually to build curiosity or qualify interest before the visitor sees the pitch.
- Squeeze PageA focused landing page designed primarily to capture an email address.
- Squeeze PageA single-purpose landing page with one goal — collect an email address — before letting the visitor see anything else.
- Surf RatioThe rate at which a traffic exchange converts your surfing time into credits — for example, a 1:1 ratio means one page viewed earns one credit.
- Swipe CopyPre-written ad text, email copy, or banner headlines supplied by an offer owner for affiliates to reuse as-is or lightly adapt.
- Text AdA short, plain-text promotional line (headline plus URL) shown to members of a text ad exchange or safelist.
- Text Ad ExchangeA network that rotates short text advertisements across member pages.
- Tracking LinkA unique URL you use to identify exactly which traffic source, ad, or campaign sent a given visitor.
- Traffic Co-opA cooperative group that pools surfing or mailing effort among members.
- Traffic Co-opA shared advertising pool where members contribute money or credits and traffic is purchased and distributed collectively across everyone's links.
- Traffic ExchangeA network where members view each other's sites to earn promotional credits they spend on visits.
- Unique VisitorA single distinct person counted once per period, regardless of how many pages they view or times they return within that window.
- Upgrade / Paid TierA paid membership level on a traffic site that removes free-member limits and adds perks like more credits, higher ad positions, or reduced ads shown to you.
- Verified ListingA directory entry checked for a working URL and accurate details.
- Verified ListingA directory entry where TrafficOS has confirmed the site is live, accessible, and matches its stated category and features.
- Viral MailerAn email system that amplifies messages through forced views, forwarding, or downline copying.
- Warm Traffic vs. Cold TrafficWarm traffic already knows or trusts you in some way; cold traffic is meeting your offer for the first time with no prior context.
