Warm traffic includes your own list, referrals, and repeat visitors — people with some existing relationship to you or your brand. Cold traffic includes most traffic-exchange hits, PTC clicks, and classified browsers: strangers seeing your link for the first time with no prior context.
Why it matters to marketers
Most traffic exchange, safelist, and PTC sources are cold by nature, which means they generally need a lower-commitment first ask (an opt-in, not a sale) and a more attention-grabbing hook than warm traffic requires. Comparing conversion rates across sources only makes sense when you account for how warm or cold each one is.
