Sizes, hosting, and technical basics
Common sizes include 468x60, 728x90, 125x125, and sometimes 300x250 or larger formats. Host creatives on HTTPS URLs — many ad sites reject insecure image links.
Keep file sizes small so pages load quickly. Animated GIFs can attract attention but should remain readable on the first frame; do not rely on users watching a long loop.
Creative tips that still work
Use high-contrast text, one focal offer, and a clear brand or product name. Soft branding and curiosity often outperform hard "BUY NOW" pitches on exchange traffic. Test two or three creatives per offer rather than one forever.
Point banners to a page designed for cold traffic. A long sales letter may work later; a squeeze or short bridge page usually converts better for first-touch banner clicks.
- Readable at a glance on mobile and desktop
- HTTPS image hosting required on many networks
- Retire banners that stop earning clicks
Measuring results
Track click-through from the exchange stats if available, and always track on-page conversions with unique links. Judge banners by opt-in or next-step rate, not impressions alone — cheap impressions that never convert are still expensive.
