Snapshot
Herculist has been running since 2001, making it one of the older safelist mailers in the directory. Globalsafelist launched in 2005. Both use a mailer credit system and both offer free+paid pricing tiers.
Track record vs. mid-era entrant
The four-year head start Herculist has doesn't automatically mean a larger or more active list — the directory doesn't provide subscriber counts, so don't read longevity as a proxy for reach. What it does tell you is that Herculist predates a lot of the safelist consolidation that happened in the mid-2000s, while Globalsafelist launched into that already-established niche.
Recommended test
Mail a small, trackable offer through both free tiers with distinct links so you can measure opens or clicks independently. Safelist mail tends to have low open rates across the board, so judge each on its own results rather than assuming the older list performs better by default.
Verdict
Both are mailer-type safelists with a paid upgrade option — functionally similar setups from different eras. Test mail volume and response on both before committing budget to either paid tier.
